Community Giving Report
We are making progress on twin quilts for the YMCA Supportive Housing Project. At the May meeting I gave a challenge (I didn’t commit Sandy to this). If we have 50 finished twin quilts by the end of this year, I will personally do the YMCA dance at a meeting. We have twenty-two finished quilts, 15 quilts checked out for piecing, quilting or binding, and 9 kits for quilting or binding. That puts us very close to the goal. Please stop by our table at the July meeting and check out a project that meets your skill and time. We also have piecing suggestions for 10-inch squares. These are all fast and easy, and a good way to use up some of that fabric in your stash. We all have some that seems to now defy logic. At this time, we particularly need quilters. Remember, in order to meet the challenge, we need the finished quilts by the October meeting.
We made several donations during June. On behalf of the Guild I donated
- 14 child-sized quilts to Child Serve
- 14.8 pounds of tab tops to Ronald McDonald House
- 6.4 pounds of personal hygiene products to the Churches United Shelter
- 28 pillowcases to the Young Women’s Resource Center
- 11 quilts and 9 pounds of hygiene products to the YMCA Supportive Housing Project.
We couldn’t make those donations without your support and generousity!
We also donated a beautiful quilt to the Alzheimer’s Association.
We especially want to thank all of you who have completed and donated placemats this year. It appears that we have reached our goal and have sufficient items to meet the needs of our recipients. So for the time being, we will be happy to accept pillowcases, lap quilts, patriotic quilts, and of course, twin quilts for the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus, but would prefer no more placemats for a while.
