“Beyond the Pattern” by Thomas Knauer

Thomas Knauer’s quilts showing at the Anderson Gallery on the Drake University campus during the month of September. He will be giving a public lecture about the cultural significance of quilts in the 21st century the evening of Thursday, September 8th at the Sussman Theater on the Drake Campus, and there will be an opening reception from 5-7 at the Anderson Gallery on September 9th.

All of the quilts from his current exhibit at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum (…/intimacy-activism-quilts-by-tho…) will be at Drake, along with many others. You can get more info about Thomas’ work at

 Reiman Gardens Annual Garden Quilt Show

September 9-10-11, 2016
Friday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, September 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Reiman Gardens and the Iowa Quilters Guild will be hosting the annual Garden Quilt Show. The three-day show will encourage the art of quilting through beautiful displays of garden-themed quilts created by talented Midwesterners as part of a juried show with prizes awarded by central Iowa sponsors. Guests will be inspired by the quilts as well as the living beauty through the Gardens, in the Hughes Conservatory, and within the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing.

Instruction, demonstrations and lectures for both novice and experienced quilters will be scheduled throughout the three day event. On Sunday, there will be a vendor’s marketplace offering a variety of fiber and fabric art.

No preregistration is required. Cost is free for members and Iowa State University students with ID. The general public pays $8 for adults, $7 for seniors ages 65+, $4 for kids ages 4-17, and free for kids ages 3 and under.
