Strip Set Exchange

Fabric – Choice of two color ways – Brights or Blue.

Blues –  You can use all types and shades of the color blue. Your fabric choices may include reproductions, solids, plaids and novelty prints. Choose good quality quilt-weight woven fabrics.

Brights – You can include all types and colors of bright fabrics including reproductions, solids, plaids and novelty prints. Choose good quality quilt-weight woven cotton fabrics.

Strip Sets:

  1. Cut strips in a variety of widths (1″, 1 1/4″, 1 1/2 “, 1 3/4″, 2″, 2 1/4″ and 2 1/2″) by half the width of the fabric (approx. 21” long)
  2. Shorten the machine stitch length (to no larger than 12 stitches per inch or #2 on some machines) when sewing strip sets. Using a shorter stitch length will help keep strips from coming undone when strips sets are cut into other shapes.
  3. Use a variety of strip widths and fabrics in each strip set. Make sure the outermost strips are at least 1 3/4″ wide. You do not need to make any attempt to make sets of identical strip sets.  Just have fun combining strips and fabrics to make the strip sets.
  4. The finished strip set should measure 12″ to 14″ wide by half the width of the fabric long (approx. 21″).

Preparing for the Due Date:
Make as many strip sets as you like! The exchange will be similar to a cookie exchange. i.e. If you bring 5 strip sets you may take 5 strip sets, etc. Please attach a piece of paper with your name to identify each strip set.  We want to be accountable to each other.

DUE DATE:
Saturday July 30th at 11 am.  In the church fellowship hall (this is during the Sew Bee It sewing social)
You are not required to register for the Sew Bee It to exchange strip sets.  However, since the guild is not sponsoring workshops in June, July or August you may wish to register for the event. Join us! It’s a nice way to spend time with other guild members.
