Newcomers
Newcomers Meeting

Our next Newcomers meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15th, at 6:30 PM at the Polk County West Side Community Center (134 6th Street, West Des Moines - corner of 6th and Maple). Newcomers meetings are open to guild members who have joined within the last year.

Deb Kirby, Retreat Committee Chair, will share details about the November retreat. Our program will be a "trunk show" from Janet Pittman of her various and beautiful projects through the years. We end the meeting with Show-and-Tell, so bring something you want to show off. Please join us to learn more about our guild and meet other new members on September 15th!

September Program & Workshops
September Program Change

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Tim Latimer will not be able to speak at the September meeting.

Instead, come for a fun, informal program featuring some of our Board members. They will be displaying some of their earliest and most recent quilts, sharing how they got interested in quilting, and telling us about some of their favorite tools and tips. You can join in by bringing one of your first quilts, and maybe one of your recent ones, to share at Show and Tell. It is always interesting to see how styles, skills, and quilt fashion has changed!

Because of the upcoming AQS show, there will be no workshops in September. Be sure to check out the line-up of workshops and lectures at www.QuiltWeek.com

October Program & Workshops
Jacquie Gering

We will end the year with one of the leaders of the Modern Quilt movement. Jacquie Gering is a modern quilter whose book, Quilting Modern, was released in 2012. Her quilts have also been featured in many magazines. In addition to print publications, Jacquie also has an online class offered through Craftsy.

Her lectures are sponsored in part with the support of the Modern Quilt group. On October 27, at 1 p.m., she will speak on "Quilting Modern: Honoring Tradition" and at 7 p.m., her topic will be "Modern Quilting:  You'll Know It When You See it."

The October 28 workshop, Slice and Insert Improv, is currently full but we will take names for a waiting list. The October 29 workshop, Log Cabin - Modern Makeover, still has a few seats remaining. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list for Slice and Insert Improv, please email Martha at mjhenrichs@aol.com. To register for Log Cabin - Modern Makeover, go to www.dmaqg.org.
