Newcomers Meeting
Our last Newcomers meeting for 2015 will be on Tuesday, October 20th, at 6:30 PM at the Polk County West Side Community Center (134 6th Street, West Des Moines - corner of 6th and Maple). Newcomers meetings are open to guild members who have joined within the last year. We will hear about next year's programs from Judi Smith (2016 Program Co-Chair). Pat Hjelmeland will present a program on "Finishing Your Quilt." We also have a Show-and-Tell, so bring something to brag about. I have had a lot of fun hosting these meetings this year and hope new members will join us to learn more about our guild and meet other new members on October 20th!
- Joyce Moore, 2015 Vice President.

October Program & Workshops
Jacquie Gering

The DMAQG year is rapidly winding down but we have one last program that we think you will enjoy.

One of the leaders of the Modern Quilt movement will be the last speaker of the year. Jacquie Gering is a modern quilter whose book, Quilting Modern, was released in 2012. Her quilts have also been featured in many magazines. In addition to print publications, Jacquie also has an online class offered through Craftsy.com.

Her lectures are sponsored in part with the support of the Des Moines Modern Quilt Group. On October 27, at 1 p.m., she will speak on "Quilting Modern: Honoring Tradition" and at 7 p.m., her topic will be "Modern Quilting:  You'll Know It When You See it."

The October 28 workshop, Slice and Insert Improv, is currently full but we will take names for a waiting list. The October 29 workshop, Log Cabin - Modern Makeover, still has a few seats remaining. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list for Slice and Insert Improv, please email Martha at mjhenrichs@aol.com. To register for Log Cabin - Modern Makeover, go to www.dmaqg.org.
