President's Letter
Greetings!

July is running true to form---hotter than ever!  Just like the deals at the Mall In the Hall and August Charity Auction!  (Notice the slick segue?!)  Time to get geared up for the coming big events.  If  you would like to help this year, I will have a sign-up list at both July  meetings for volunteers.  We will need afternoon volunteers to carry donations in to both the M-I-H and Auction areas, as well as helpers during the Auction that evening.  Work shifts will be 2 hours, so your whole day won't be affected.

Our charity auction has a proud tradition of generous donations to local organizations.  Last year we donated over $14,700 to American Heart Assoc., Breast Cancer Research, and Alzheimer's Assoc.  We will again be supporting these worthy organizations.  So plan your donations, finish your projects, and cull those notions and extra fabrics!  Let's make this year's auction a success and a night of fun!  See you July 28!

Mall in the Hall Gift Shop
At the August Women's Health Auction, we will have a Gift Shop along side the Mall in the Hall.  The Mall in the Hall is a quilter's garage sale.  Start collecting items to bring to sell.  Books, tools, fabric, or anything that can be sold to make a successful sale for the Health Charities that we support.  (No magazines please )

The Gift Shop will be a new section of Mall in the Hall.  The Gift Shop will feature completed items that will be suitable for gifting to family or friends. Items will be priced from $1 to $50. We need your help. Please make items for us to sell.

Some ideas are ----
Coasters        Tablerunners        Penny Rugs    Tree Ornaments   Stuffed Toys        Quilted books       Pillows        Small wall quilts
or anything else you like to make that one would find in a gift shop.

Please bring your gift shop items to the July general meeting or between 1-4:30, August 25th (the day of the auction).  General Mall in the Hall items can be dropped off the day of the sale (August 25th-- between 1-4:30.)  We will price the times and the sale will begin at 5 o'clock.

A Coffee and Treat Shop will be open between 3-5 so you can relax and enjoy talking with friends while waiting for the really big sale to begin. Then, be sure to shop for that special gift while shopping Mall in the Hall.

Little Quilts at the Quilt Show
Our group Sew Sew Joyful is looking forward to seeing your wonderful small quilts that will be sold at the Show.  We are hoping each of you will be making one.

Again this year the quilts may be any size up to 24" on one side or a total of four sides equaling 96".  Bags, purses and totes are also welcome.

We do need to have them before the end of August, so you can bring them to the August Charity Auction, if you wish.  We love the ones we have received.  We encourage you to show off your talents.

If you have questions, you may call or text Sherri Street (515-664-3996) or Sue McMain (515-865-5218).
Retreat News
Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I am getting so excited to start taking reservations for the Fall Retreat Nov. 5-8 at Camp Wesley Woods in Indianola. Sign up will be starting at the July meeting, which is July 28!!

If you were there before you know how much fun it is. If you were not you need to be sure to sign up as it is so much fun to sew when you want and visit when you want and make lots of new friends. Be sure and sign up early to be sure of a spot. There is a limit again of reservations I can take.

Some changes this fall is we are going to try out sewing in the Gym. We will all be sewing in the same room which I think people will like.  It will mean going outside to eat and sleep for everyone. I have also a reserved a new lodge for sleeping that holds 8 and you would drive to it and park there.

Fee will be $140.00 and we will once again take the $25.00 down will hold your spot but the final money needs to be paid before Sept. 1 due to camp cancellation policy.

Find me in the back of meeting room at the July meeting with sign up sheets. It will then be in the August Newsletter and you will be able to print it on line shortly after the July meeting.

- Deb Kirby, Retreat Chair
Library Notes

Remember that the library will not be open in August, so books checked out in July are not due back until September.  This gives you a whole extra month to enjoy your book.  Also, July will be our last month for book sales.  All remaining books will be donated to mall-in the-hall in August.

We have been happy to see a few more members visiting the library.  Please remember that you may check the website in advance if you are looking for a specific book or topic.  We are also happy to help you look for a book, but you need to know the author or the title of the book in order for us to do this.

Two new books were added to the library in June.  Angela Lawrence graciously donated a copy of her book Needleturn Applique The Basics and Beyond.  Please say thank you to Angela when you see her at the next guild meeting.  Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses by Linda Franz was purchased by the library due to member request.

Community Giving
Our Guild is Dy-na-might!

Again!  You have emptied our containers and asked for more.  We are astounded and grateful for your generosity.  Our Guild is dy-na-mighty when we work together! During the June general meetings you checked  in 13 completed finished quilts, 12 quilt top, 1 quilt ready to bind and 29 pillow cases. You checked out 6 pillowcase kits, 9 tops to quilt, 3 quilts to bind and one to piece.

In June we delivered 152 placemats to Meals on Wheels, and 17 burp cloths, 10 cuddle quilts, 22 kid cot quilts to Children and Families of Iowa Urban Ministries, and bunches of pop tops and toiletries to Ronald McDonald House.

We have 51 quilt tops that need batting.  We purchased charitable batting from The Heart of Iowa at a reduced rate and we are grateful for their generosity as they delivered it from Wisconsin at no charge.

If, however, you are willing to quilt a top and provide batting we have kits with a top, backing, and binding for you.

Long-Armers

Community Giving has a request of those in our guild that work on long arm sewing machines.  Please save any long side or end pieces and donate to Community Giving. We will take pieces that are 16 inches or wider and make them into battings for our quilt tops.  We thank you in advance.

Habitat for Humanity

We have caught sight at the guild meetings of a few quilts that are being made for our Habitat project. The quilts we have seen are spectacular and by the grape vine we have heard that they will be entered into the quilt show.

We would like to recognize those groups and individuals that are making a quilt for Habitat.  If you would like your name or your small group's name mentioned in the display at the show please give your information to Terry or Sandy in written form.
You can also send us an email or call us.
